To mark World Water Day, March 22nd 2011
The Green
School Committee, Ms S Breen and E. Cashman 4th Classes advise us to
get into the habit of using water wisely at home and in school.
Water is unique
and precious. There is nothing quite like it –nothing to replace it. Please
conserve it by implementing the following at home.
·
Keep a jug of water
and some ice in the fridge freezer/Don’t run the tap until the water turns
cold
·
Fill a basin or sink
with a stopper with water and use it to wash dishes.
·
Don’t rinse dishes
before you put them in the dishwasher
·
Only operate
dishwasher when full and use the shortest cycle possible
·
Only wash clothes when
they are dirty
·
Sort the clothes
properly
·
Set the machine to
shortest possible cycle
·
Only operate machine
when it is full
·
Have a quick shower
instead of a bath
·
Take a short power
shower only- the power shower uses more than a bath
·
Turn the tap off when
brushing your teeth
·
Leave the tap off when
you soap your hands.
·
Turn on only to rinse
·
Use the shorter flush
button on the toilet if there is one available
·
Save waste water from
kitchen and bathroom to water indoor and outdoor plants
·
Put indoor plants
outside for a short time in the rain
·
Use a water bucket to
collect rain water from the roof and down pipes and water plants with this.
·
Check outdoor taps and
pipes for leaks.
·
Wash the car using a
bucket- No hoses please
·
Pay a plumber to fix
dripping taps or any leaks indoor and outdoors
Most
importantly of all-PLEASE TURN OFF RUNNING TAPS!
