CIRCULAR TO ALL PARENTS, No. 2, 30th September 2009

Dear Parents,

Independence (Junior Infants)
Our new pupils have settled very well. To help further develop their independence, parents are asked to allow their child to enter the classroom him/herself and not to linger. We expect that all pupils will have achieved this level of independence by mid-term.

Calendar
Reminder: School closed on Friday 2nd October (Requisitioned for referendum)
Error in calendar circulated earlier: Friday 26th March: Closing 12.00 Noon for Easter Holidays (not 1.20p.m.)

Joint AGM, Board of Management and Parents’ Association
Please mark the date in your  diary: Monday October 12th, 8.00 p.m. More details later.

Child Protection Policy
The school’s Child Protection Policy is published on our website. At a recent meeting, the Board of Management adopted a recommendation that all voluntary workers in the school would be asked to agree to Garda vetting, in accordance with Diocesan and Parish policy. The Parents’ Association Committee has approved this measure.

Volunteers for Library
If you have some free time on Tuesday or Thursday mornings and would like to assist in the library, please contact Nora Leddy, library coordinator @ 087-2945483 or see rota sheet on the notice board in the foyer.

Research Project
Pupils from Rang 3- Rang 6 are invited to participate in Taste Buddies, a research project funded by the Department of Agriculture and Food, being carried out by the Food and Health Department in UCD, investigating the various reasons for food choice, specifically fruit and vegetable choice in Irish children and their parents. The pupils would be involved in a simple sensory test, tasting different paper discs and rating on a scale how strong each disc tastes. As the research is in keeping with our Healthy Eating Policy and should be interesting and enjoyable for the pupils, I have approved the school’s participation. Consent forms will be circulated next week and the activity will take place after mid-term. Pupils will participate in small groups and the time envisaged for each group is about 15 minutes.

Parents’ Association Wine and Cheese Night
This popular event will take place on Friday 6th November.
