Dear Parents,

Influenza A (H1N1)

The school has taken a number of measures advised by the HSE to prevent the spread of swine flu. On our return from the mid-term break, we have been informed of three pupils who have had diagnoses of the disease confirmed. The greatest contribution that parents can make to prevent the spread of the disease is to keep your child at home if s/he has flu symptoms. Teachers have told me that sick children are being sent to school. The advice of the HSE is that children who are sick in school should be isolated and parents instructed to collect them immediately. We will act accordingly. Please do not send a sick child to school. Siblings of sick children are not excluded from school, if they are not displaying symptoms.

Parent-Teacher Meetings

Under national agreements, schools are required to offer 2 ½ hours for parent-teacher meetings outside of school hours. The reality in most cases is that it takes a lot longer than that to get the job done and over the last years teachers have arranged extra meetings, outside of the “official” time,  in order to accommodate everyone. Last year, in an effort to make the process run more smoothly and to further accommodate parents, Scoil San Treasa added an additional evening. This year, notwithstanding the cutbacks in education, the income levies, the pension levies and the threat of further pay reductions, teachers agreed at our last staff meeting to make the additional day available again this year. Parent  meetings will take place on November 25^th and 26^th from 2.30-5.00pm.  (Separate arrangements for Ms. Wyley/Ms. Kelly’s Senior Infants & Mr. Connolly’s Rang 5)

In cases of heavy demand, time slots will be filled on a first come-first served basis.

Please list all relevant siblings. Teachers of siblings will liaise on timetabling to avoid overlaps and to minimize waiting times between meetings.
