The Giant from Scotland

Long long ago in a small in Antrim off the coast of Ireland lived Fionn a warrior and his wife Una. One day a messenger from Scotland arrived, “I have been send here my the mighty giant Angus. He has defeated all the other giants but not you. I warn you he is the biggest, strongest, most fearsome giant in all of Scotland. Well, do you accept the challenge?” he said. “Of course I shall!” At that the messenger went back home to tell the great Angus about the news. Una looked at her husband in anxiety. Fionn started working straight away building a path across the sea to Scotland. The causeway was made up of hundreds of black rocks, different sizes and shapes. One evening after a long days hard work, Fionn came home to see Una looking very distraught. “What’s the matter?” he asked. “Oh, Fionn I’ve heard that Angus is much bigger and stronger than you. You shall never be able to beat him! We must make a plan fast!” Time was running out, soon Angus would be coming to fight Fionn and they still didn’t have a plan. Later that week the messenger came to Fionn. “He is ready and waiting.” For the next few days sewing was the only thing Una did. “What are you doing?” asked Fionn confused. “What do you think? I am making clothes! Go on put them on!” Fionn looked like a fool, a big baby. He climbed into a cot and pretended to be asleep. When Angus came in Una showed him the baby and told him that Fionn was out and would be back in a while. If this is Fionn’s child Fionn must be gigantic, thought Angus. And he ran back to Scotland shaking the earth all around.
