The Industrial Revolution

When: 1750-1830

Where: mainly Great Britian but some parts of Europe

Why: people felt that they needed to update machines so goods could be made in larger quanties much quicker.

How: It began when James Hargreaves invented the Spinning Jenny.

Outcome: More women started earning money instead of men always earning money but a lot of people were killed or badly injured in the machines.

Before the industrial Revolution

During the 18th century the majority of the Europeans lived in the countryside, but later on in the 18th century new inventions and new sources of power were found. Goods were made in bigger quanties because now you could make them using big machines in factories. That was the start of the industrial revolution.

Life during the Industrial Revolution

By 1851,now most of the people in Europe lived in cities and it was very hard for them. Many of the places were overcrowded. Most of the houses were dark and small. Toilets were outside and to get water you would have to get it from a pump outside. Hardly any children went to school they had to work in factories to earn money. They did not get paid a lot and they had to work for 14 hours a week. Many children got killed by machinery when they fell asleep and got caught up in the machines. If people worked to slowly they would get whipped. Lots of children worked in coal mines. Some of them were as young as 4.
