The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Who: No one knows who built it, but possible suspects are the famous architects such as Bonnano, Deotiusalvi, Gerado, Giudlotto, etc.

When: Whoever built it, started their construction on the 9th of August 1173. They worked on it for eleven years until 1184. When they halted their construction in 1184, they where not actually done. They had built it on unsteady ground so it started to lean. Over the years it has started to lean even more!

Height: The Leaning Tower of Pisa’s original height is 179ft (54m). The leaning is 17ft (5.2m). It would be much higher if it hadn’t started to lean.

Facts: Many newspapers started to make jokes about why the tower leans so much but no one actually had an answer besides that the ground was unsteady.

How: The tower was built out of dried stones. It was built to show the rest of the world the wealth of the city.

Tourist facts: Many tourists from all over the world flock to the city to see it. It is one of the most famous landmarks in the world and it is one of the main reasons people go to visit Italy.
