King
Iubdán was the king of leprechauns and a proud, boastful little fellow he was.
He thought he was the bravest, cleverest, richest king that ever lived but one
day a little leprechaun called Eisirt denied it and said king Fergus Crooked
neck was. King Iubdán was outraged. “Lock him up!”, shouted King Iubdán.
“Let me prove it”, cried Eisirt. So King Iubdán let him prove it and he
told Eisirt to travel over to king Fergus’s fort.
So the next day Eisirt set off to go to go to King Fergus Crooked
neck’s fort and the guards dropped him in a cup of wine. “Let me out!”, he
shouted, “I will give you knowledge and wisdom”. The guards laughed. Eisirt
started to tell King Fergus Crooked neck about all the lies his guards told him.
“Enough, Enough!”, he shouted and the king lifted him out of the wine. “Oh
thank you, you’re so brave and kind”, praised Eisirt.
So Eisirt stayed there with them for two nights. But now it
was time to go home and show King Iubdán the proof. The king told Eisirt to
bring Aodh with him. So they set off and Eisirt rode in Aodh’s pocket. On
their way they met king Iubdán’s horse on the way. The horse carried them
home and Eisirt told his tale to everyone. He showed king Iubdán, Aodh, the
smallest man in the kingdom as proof and Eiswirt told the king to go taste the
royal porridge in King crooked neck’s fort. So they all travelled there and
they went into the enormous kitchen where on the table stood a giant pot of
porridge. The horse leapt into the pot and king Iubdán couldn’t get out. He
stood on the horses back and climbed up but he just fell down into the porridge
again. The chefs came in and they saw king Iubdán in the porridge and they took
him to their king. He told king Iubdán to stay there and not escape so he
stayed there for a long time. Everyone became very worried and they threatened
king Fergus Crooked neck to let their king go but he refused. King Iubdán said
they could have one of his treasures and he picked the magic shoes. He walked
over to the lake and he stepped over it without getting wet. But in the middle
of the lake was a huge monster sleeping. King Fergus slashed the monster with
his sword and the monster tried to attack him but the king was too fast. King
Fergus finished him off and everyone cheered. So the king and queen were set
free and they never ate another bowl of porridge again. ![]()
