THE
AMERICAN WAR OF INDEPENDENCE
Who
and When?
The American War of Independence started in 1775, The Americans were
known to the British as George Washitgton led the rebels. The Americans wanted
to rule themselves. They wanted to be free from British rule. The King of
England (George the 3rd) was angry and amused by this. Angry because
he wanted to keep America for Britian, and amused because he never thought they
would follow it through. So he didn’t take any of the Americans threats
seriously.
The
French are usually forgotten in this war but yet held a huge part by supplying
weapons to the Americans.
Why?
The
British were forcing the American citizens to pay an extremely high tax on tea,
sugar, and so on. One event that sticks in my mind is the Boston Tea Party where
a bunch of civilians dressed up as natives and threw chests of tea into the sea.
The Britians were furious and made the Americans pay extra on tea, but the
Americans were highly amused

Outrage!
There
was a young girl named Dolly Madison who didn’t look anything but sweet, but
in fact she burned Washington DC in protest. Thankfully she was never found out
but a man who suspected her tipped off a British soldier and they forced her to
pay £20, which was a huge amount back then.
The
first battle was at Lexington it is unknown to this day who fired the first
shots.
In
the end the Americans and Britians came head to head in a battle, which turned
out to be the end of the war. They met at Yorktown and the Americans won and
were recognised as an Independent country in 1783.
